God Cannot Lie

Three times in the last two weeks I have had a situation in which I either knew on the spot, or found out shortly thereafter, that someone was absolutely lying to me. I have to admit in one instance I was tempted to be extremely angry. The Greek/Irish girl in me wanted to rise up and throw a fit, but somehow that English Quaker background prevailed. In one instance, I was so flabbergasted that the person would blatantly lie that they had done something that I obviously knew they did not do, I couldn't even speak. In the last instance, I found out about the situation after the fact.

The point is, none of us likes being lied to. We feel betrayed. We lose faith and trust in the person who has done the lying. Faith and trust are hard things to earn back once lost.

"In hope of eternal life, which God,
that cannot lie, promised before the world began"

Titus 1:2

Now, I know that we have all, everyone single one of us, lied at some point in time. It may have been a whopping big one, and I'll admit I've done that. It may have been one of those tiny, little ones...but we have all lied. But God cannot lie. The Scriptures do not say He doesn't lie, although this is true too, but it says He cannot lie. What an amazing comfort that should be to our hearts. What He has said has to be true because He cannot lie to us. He cannot deceive us. He IS truth. (John 14:6)

It is a bedrock of confidence to know that there is someone in whom we can place perfect faith and trust because their word is perfectly faithful and they themselves are perfectly trustworthy. How often have we felt betrayed...by family, by friends, by politicians, by employers, the list could go on an on. The Lord will never be on that list. "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True," (Revelation 19:11).

Faithful and True.

Faithful and True enough for us to bring to Him every care. Faithful and True enough for us to bring to Him every need. Faithful and True enough for us to bring every thought, every wish, every hope, every dream. Ah, He knows those things in our heart anyway, and He will never betray that which is brought to Him, for He cannot lie. He is Faithful and True, for all eternity. He is the One that can ever be trusted.

Rest your weary soul in His arms and find peace.

"Come unto me,
all ye that labour
and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest."

Matthew 11:28

I believe it is Christ who gives me strength, and I hope I am wise enough to welcome the moment he gives me rest.

Christ owns my life. Not Obama. Not the Party.

That is the source of all comfort, especially in these days.
