Washed White

Since October my husband has been doing a great deal of walking.  Last month I decided to join him.

I love the scenery, the exercise, the quietness of our time walking.  Most of all I love the company.

In one place on our walks we pass in front of a business.  The roof-line overhangs the sidewalk a bit.  Most of the sidewalk in that area is a dark grey, but along this spot there is a small bright white line.  This line has been caused by the rain falling off the roof line and splashing along that strip of sidewalk.  The water has washed away the dirt by  repetitive pounding.

Every time we pass that way and I see the bright white spot along the dark grey sidewalk, I think of two passages of Scripture:

Titus 3:5
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost."

Ephesians 5:25-27
". . .even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish."

We are like that bright strip on the sidewalk, our sins have been washed away our Lord.  He has made us a "new creation," bright and clean. It makes me think of the words to an old hymn.

I've Been Redeemed

 I've been redeemed
by the blood of the Lamb.
I've been redeemed
by the blood of the Lamb,
I've been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb,
filled with the Holy Ghost I am.
All my sins are washed away,
I've been redeemed.

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
Isaiah 1:18
